Blog Award!

For the second time I have been awarded with The Liebster Blog Award! This time by lovely Jannie of the blog Vintage Window. With this award follows eleven questions, and I always enjoy reading these questions and answers on blogs I follow. I think this is a really good way of getting to know the writer behind the blog a bit. So here comes my answers to the questions Jannie sent me!

1. Have you ever had regrets about wearing vintage & said to yourself: "Enough is enough...!?"

NO! I have never regretted wearing vintage! Sometimes going to the ladies room might be a bit trickier, but it's totally worth it!

2. What is the dearest vintage item in your possession?

Difficult question...I have so many pretty dresses I love to wear over and over again. But the vintage item I use the most is the bag in the picture below. It used to belong to my grandma, who now is 95 years old and always want to see what new vintage pieces I have bought every time she visits. The fact that I use her old hand bag she thinks is really funny!

3. What do you put under your shoes when they need new soles?

I actually just have two pairs of vintage shoes. The rest are newly produced, but usually with a 40s, 50s look. When they need to be reshod I just bring them to a good shoe repairer!

4. Are you the only one in your family, who wear or live vintage?

Yep! I'm the only "weird" one in the family! Haha! Every time I get a new dress my mom sighs, and wants to know what I need one more dress for - seriously?!...But when she sees it her standard comment is: "Oh. Maybe that will fit me too"...

5. For how long did you wear or live vintage before starting to blog?

I have always loved dressing up, and loved going through boxes of old clothes on the attic already when I was little. But I didn't become a "real" vintage wearer until just a few years ago. So I think I had been wearing it for maybe about a year or two when I started this blog.

6. Many vintage lovers also seem to be cat lovers - are you fond of cats & if you are why?

I have also noticed this! Someone should make a scientific research about why this so often occurs! I have always loved animals, but when I turned ten I got a cat - who stayed with me, and the rest of my family for eighteen years, before she went to cat-heaven. So now I do prefer cats over dogs. I like the fact that I don't have to get out in the cold rain early every morning to walk the dog - the cat can go to the box by him/herself. I also like the philosophical aspect of cats. They can just sit and stare into infinity forever, not caring about anyone else until they choose to themselves...Or until food is served...

7. What season is the best & what is the worst for wearing vintage?

Since I love pretty dresses, I would say summer is the best season for showing them off! The colder seasons are great for hats, gloves, fur stoles and things like that. But living in Sweden I love when it gets so warm outside I can take off those heavy pieces of clothing and just skip around in a flowy dress!

8. Do you make your own vintage style clothing & if you do, please show us some examples!

Yes I do! When it comes to sewing I'm pretty much self taught. But I noticed it wasn't so difficult if you just follow the instructions, and use your brain a little...So now I like searching for patterns from the 40s and 50s, and then bring the sewing machine out! Here are a few examples of what I've done:

9. Have you ever persuaded anybody to start wearing vintage - if you have, what was your best argument?

No, I have never persuaded someone to start wearing vintage. During shopping sprees I might have told someone to get a vintage, or vintage inspired, piece of clothing though - simply because it looks good on the person in question.

10. Does wearing or living vintage also affect the way you speak?

No it doesn't! Sometimes I can use a few old words, or titles, while speaking with my vintage wearing friends. But that is just as a joke. I'm a language-nerd, so I love playing with words, and idioms, but when I hang with my best friends the things that come out of our mouths is quite often quite bad (read: "obscene")...

11. Could you tell us either a joke or a riddle about the vintage lifestyle?

Well, I have to say I really enjoy really sexist vintage ads! If an ad like this was put up today, it would be taken down pretty fast. But that they were serious about these during the decades they were actually used, and also thought that it was completely normal and ok, is something I find pretty hilarious! More Questions

After being challenged with eleven questions by Elsa, I got a new challenge from Tifa! Since I got some good response from my last questions-post, I will do this challenge too. But after this one I'll stop harassing you with all these extremely important facts bout me!


1. What was the first cd you bought?


I honestly can't remember which one of all my cd was my first. But it's very probable it was something with Michael Jackson, or maybe Madonna's Like A Prayer.

 2. What is most important in a partner; humor or looks?


At first sight, looks is the most important. People that says the outside doesn't matter, don't know what they're talking about! If you have to chose a man/woman out of a row, to get to know better, most people would go for the one their eyes like the most. That's the way it works. Later though, when you actually get to know someone, humor comes first! The pretty surface will eventually disappear. Hopefully the humor will stay!


3. If someone was to play the part of you in a movie, who would you chose for the roll?


If someone was to play me in a movie I would chose Angelina Jolie! Not that I think I look like her, but I'm not stupid. Of course I would go for the prettiest one!

4. What celebrity do you think you resemble the most?


I remember having this discussion at a party some time ago. My conclusion both then and now is that I can't really think of a celebrity I think I resemble. Both at that party and at other times people have told me I have something Dita von Teesish over me though. I can't really see it myself, but of course I take it as a hugh compliment! I just think that if you dress in vintage - and especially the more glamorous side of vintage - have dark hair, white skin and red lips, Dita is usually the only celebrity reference to most people. I've never really tried to look like someone else than myself though...Except for when I dressed up as Dracula at a masquerade when I was little - dark hair, white skin and red lips you know...So I guess my style icons are...Um...Moving on to the next question...


5. What piece of clothing is your worst buy?

6. Which is the latest movie you saw?


Meet The Feebles. A friend of mine was horrified over the fact that I hadn't seen this movie before, so he gave me whiskey and forced me to see it!...And I really liked it! The gritty truth about what goes on in showbiz...

7. If you didn't work with what you do today, what would your dream profession be?


My dream was to become a dancer - preferably a ballet dancer. But since I managed to break myself on the way, that career is pretty much out of the question! But I heard the above mentioned miss von Teese once say it was since she was an unsuccessful ballet dancer she went into burlesque. So I guess my only choice now is to follow her good example...


8. Do you think you've lived another life before? In that case when/how/where?


I love these kinds of questions! Things you can discuss forever and still never find a real answer to! But I think that if I have lived before it was probably in the 18th century. Where I was either:

A. Really rich, so I could afford all the pretty clothes, shoes and jewelry, and live in beautiful places, and attend beautiful parties - which in that case is the reason I love all those things in this life too!

Or:

B. Really poor, not being able to afford all the things above - which in that case is the reason I want them in this life!

9. What kind of vacation do you prefer?


As I'm not a tan-fan, the beach isn't my favorite place to spend my vacation. I don't mind laying under an umbrella, listening to the sounds of the waves for a few hours, but I prefer to travel to places where I can see and experience things. So I like going to a city a lot more than just hanging on the beach my whole vacation. So far my favorite destination is NYC!

10. Do you believe in love at first sight?


I'm a hopeless romantic, so yes I do!!!


11. If you could give 1 million SEK (138,740 USD) to any organization, what would that organization be?


If I got a chance to donate this kind of money to an organization I would give it to Djurens Rätt (The Animal's Rights). Compared to humans, animals can't plead for themselves, and I hate to see "mute" living creatures suffer!

Usually when someone challenges you to answer questions on a blog, it is customary to make up some new questions and challenge some other bloggers. Last time I didn't, so this time I will! And I will start with a question I stole from Elsa:

11 Questions

Elsa from the blog Grandmother's Pearls has challenged me with eleven questions. As I always do my best to answer when someone asks me something, I of course had to take on this challenge! So here comes some facts about moi!

1. If you were an animal, what animal would you be and why?

If I would be an animal I would be a cat! I love how they can just spend hours staring out into infinity, philosophizing. Just as cats I'm very independent, but I also love to cuddle! If you stroke me the right way I might purr. Might! If I choose to...

2. What was your dream profession as a child?

I spent a lot of time around horses when I was younger, so I dreamed of working with these lovely animals for the rest of my life. I also loved setting up little shows for my family and relatives, so I guess I've always been drawn to being on stage. I also remember wishing I could be a mermaid for a while...

3. What is your guilty pleasure?

Ben & Jerry's!!! Preferably Half Baked or Phish Food!

4. What makes a person attractive in your eyes?

A person who is comfortable in his/her own skin, with what they do, and what they choose to wear is attractive to me. They can usually relax and be themselves. Humor is important too! And not be afraid to joke about yourself.

5. Tell us about someone you really admire and look up to?

I look up to people who are really good at what they do! The ones who spend the extra time it takes to really get to know and refine their craft. A lot of people are good at what they do. But then there are the ones who stand above the rest - because they worked hard to get there!

6. Describe the perfect day! What would you do and who would you spend it with?

After my six years in Hell with chronic pain, not being able to do or really enjoy almost anything, a perfect day for me is simply one when I feel good and enjoy actually being alive. One of the biggest lessons I learnt during my pain-years is to enjoy the moment! Don't save that bottle of champagne I know a lot of you have in your fridges for a special occasion. When that occasion occurs you might not be able to drink it for whatever reason. Drink it on a normal Tuesday with someone you want to share it with. And enjoy it!

7. What music do you listen to when you are getting ready for a night out?

That depends on who I'm getting ready with! With my sister we usually put on something that really rocks, and gets you in a party mood. If I go out with my vintage friends I usually listen to something older, like Billie Holiday for example.

8. If you could live in another era, what era would you chose?

If I could live in another era I would choose the 18th century! I would just love to have been able to experience the lavish balls held at Versailles during the good years!

9. Do you have a favorite quote or motto in your life?

My favorite quote comes from Shakespeare's The Twelfth Night: "If music be the food of love, play on". I have it tattooed over my right side ribs.

10. What is your favorite scent?

My favorite scent comes from my favorite flowers - Lilly of the Valleys. That scent is just so pure and seductive at the same time!

11. If you could recommend one book you really think people should read, what book would that be?

I'm a real book-nerd, but this question is an easy one. The one book everyone should read is Complete Tales & Poems by Edgar Allan Poe!
