Better late than never...

On July 12th my friends Anna and Patrik got married. Unfortunately Miss Meadows had forgotten to load the batteries in her camera, and had to wait for some pictures to arrive from the wedding photographer (my sister Christine Engström) before she could blog about it...Yesterday I got the photos though, so here we go!

For the occasion I wore a repro 50s plum colored wiggle dress from Bettie Page Clothing. I felt that the vintage lilly of the valley hat I wore at Fanny's and Michael's wedding earlier this summer was the perfect wedding hat, so it got to come along to this one too.

The bride and groom matched each other very well! Anna had sewn her dress herself, done her hair herself, made the fascinator she wore in her hair herself, and put together the bridal bouquet herself. I'm impressed!

The wedding took place in a pavilion in Vitabergsparken in Stockholm, and the weather was perfect!

After the ceremony we all mingled around in the park, eating strawberries and drinking bubbles. After that we went to the Museum of Modern Art where we enjoyed a vegetarian buffet and later a delicious wedding cake. Then the dancing begun, and continued all night long...

More funny ads!

After yesterday's post I looked around for more funny ads from the past, telling you how to lose - or gain - weight. Here are a few of them.

Why not do like Zsa Zsa Gabor, and lose weight with Ayds? "With Ayds you lose weight the way Nature intended you to - without dieting or hunger." Hm...The way Nature intended you to?...

The "Electric Vibrator"?! I wonder how many of the women who bought this actually used it on their hips...

Or why not start smoking?! No one would be able to deny your new smokin' figure...

...And they also protects your throat against irritation and cough! Wow!

"Bile Beans". Mmmmm. Yummy!!!!

And then a few ones for the girl who feels too skinny.

If there are any girls out there today who would eat anything that had the words "Get fat" written over it - raise your hand...None?...Ok...

"Don't think you're "born" to be skinny and friendless"...And you can really see that this girl has gained weight. She's not skinny at all anymore...

According to this ad I'm not glamorous - since I'm skinny! Aaaaah!!!! I wonder if you can still get that "Numal" somewhere today?...

...Or maybe some "Kelp-A-Malt"? That sounds healthy...

The Magic Girdle

Dieting, taking drugs, exercising, wearing body shaping lingerie etc, has always - more or less - existed. We all want to look our best, and there are many different ways to go about it. If whatever you try works or not is up to the individual person. But then there are a few things that would amaze me if they actually did anything the add says it will. The girdle in the add below is one of these. I found it on the blog "what-I-found", and just had to share it with my readers.

The add is from 1934, and promises that "You do nothing, take no drugs, eat all you wish, yet, with every move the marvelous Perfolastic Girdle gently massages away the surplus fat, stimulating the body once more into energetic health". Wow...

At Kellerman's we come together...Part 2

For my second day as an intern at Kellerman Vintage I decided to try out my new skirt. When I first tried it on I thought about shortening it a bit, but now I have decided not to. I like the length, and the fabric is wonderful - heavy and a bit slinky - and I love the way it flows around my legs!

To make it a bit more interesting I added a pair of red "Graceland" shoes. Not only prostitutes wear red shoes - as some people have stated in the past. At least I have never charged anyone for those kind of services (at least not so far), and I - obviously - still wear red shoes. Case closed!

In the shop Fanny spent a lot of the day working on a feather fascinator - an order from a customer who wants to wear it on her wedding day. It turned out beautifully, and when it was finished Fanny used my head to photograph it on. She had to work for some time on putting my hair up before she took the picture though, to create the illusion - as she said - of making my head look a bit bigger than it really is...

The problem with being friends with someone who owns a vintage shop is that I end up spending a lot of time there, thoroughly going through all the treasures she has for sale, and then I end up buying something. *Sigh*. That girl is going to ruin me...This day I managed to go home with a pair of silver earrings, shaped like little filigree fans with inset dark blue stones.

At Kellerman's we come together...

Since I love vintage and wouldn't mind working in a vintage shop, but to get a job in a vintage shop you need experience working in a vintage shop, my lovely friend Fanny - who happens to own Kellerman Vintage - offered me to get this needed experience in her shop. It's sort of an internship when I choose myself when I want to come in for a day now and then to keep her company, watch her in action, and help out when I'm needed. She already did have some company though, because a few weeks ago James and his vintage shop for men - "Fjaerilen" ("The Butterfly") moved in downstairs!

I loved this shop even before I became friends with Fanny. The clothes are really good, and if you're looking for designer vintage this is a place you don't want to miss! Another thing that I really like with Kellerman Vintage is that the clothes hang on the racks according to size! So you don't have to spend forever going through everything, and then when you think you've found something it's too big or too small. There are lots of accessories too - hats, gloves, shoes, bags, jewelry, sunglasses etc.

Fanny in action! The way she holds that pen and stare pensively into the air really makes her look like the smart business woman she is!

I tried on a few things in the shop. Cool 50s sunglasses, vintage hat from Dior, and vintage Versace shoes. None of it - except the sunglasses - really fit me though. I'm a small girl...

New skirt

I've had my eye on a 50s skirt from Firefly Vintage on Etsy for a while now, so when Tifa DeLeone put it up as one of her "Favorites of the Week" on her web magazine "Min Boudoir" for everyone to see, I naturally had to order it before anyone else snatched it!

I'm really bad at knowing what fabric different things are made out of, but according to the web site the skirt has been made out of rayon or a rayon blend. It also has a bit of a nubby feeling like silk shantung. The fit is snug over the hips, and then flares out more and more. The fabric has been cut on the bias, so it has a really nice flow to it. The color is a bit darker in reality than on the picture, and since I'm pretty short I'm thinking about shortening it a little. But I'm not sure yet. Have to try it out a bit first. Aside from that the only thing I have to do is change the positions of the hooks and eyes in the side closing a little to fit my waist better. After that it will be ready to be brought out into the world again!
