Jewelry Friday

Part of our costumes (or lack there of...) in La Traviata consists of really cool jewelry. I asked the costume designer Sanna Nyström where she had found it, and she said she had bough most of it at a shop called WOS. So of course I had to check this place out! WOS was launched in 2012, is run by Jenny Widing and Ulrika Stöllman, and has a physical shop in Stockholm, as well as a web shop. Their vision is to be able to offer an oasis of accessories, and also to be a stepping stone for unestablished avant-garde design. Currently they have around 80 designers and artists working for WOS, creating unique pieces of different materials. Although you find everything from bags and sunglasses to art here, this jewelry post will of course be about their jewelry! To see everything else WOS has to offer, just follow this link!

When I first saw the beautiful jewelry made by Jo I was transported to an old, mystical place... I met Jo at Burleskloppis (The Burlesque Flea Market) a few weeks ago, and there I bought this Big X-Ray Bat Necklace from her. I love bats so wearing an actual x-ray of this fantastic creature around my neck feels great! Fabergé Friday

After last Friday's anomaly, Fabergé Friday is now back! This time with something that is extremely rare to find - a Fabergé ring! This one was made around the year 1900!

The ring - which was made for a man - is simple, yet elegant, in it's design, with a reeded pattern in 14K gold.

In the center sits a 1.89 ct old European cut diamond. 

The US size of the ring is 7 3/4 (18 mm), and it's price is 26,000 USD. You find it at Romanov Russia!

Fabergé Friday

Ok, all you men out there! If anyone feels like proposing to me, I have now found the ring I want. It's from Fabergé's workshop, and was made by assay master Yakov Liapunov, sometime between the years 1899 and 1904. And here it is!

The engagement ring is made of silver topped 14K gold, and is set with two old European cut diamonds, and ten old mine cut diamonds. The size of it is 18 mm, so I will have to make it a bit smaller after the proposal...

The ring comes in it's original Fabergé silk and velvet lined fitted Hollywood case, stamped FABERGÉ in Cyrillic letters, beneath a double headed Imperial eagle. So now you know! I'll be in my boudoir waiting for Prince Charming...

The Great Gatsby and Tiffany

I think many of you who read this blog have waited with anticipation for the movie The Great Gatsby to start showing this year. The movie takes place in the 1920s, and will be full of amazing costumes - and jewelry! These jewels have been created by none others than Tiffany & Co. The good news are that these sparkling pieces haven't been made for the movie alone, but are part of Tiffany's The Great Gatsby Collection, and can so be bought! Fabergé Friday

This Friday we will look at a piece of man-jewelry - a Russian Imperial Award Ring given by Empress Maria Feodorovna to an unknown man, in 1915!

The ring is made of gold, with a matte finish, gray guilloché enamel, and diamonds. It is designed in the Russian modern style of the 1910s, with a medieval version of the Byzantine double-headed eagle.

After the Byzantine empire had fallen, in the 15th century, Russia adopted the double-headed eagle as its state emblem. The design of this emblem was changed several times over the following centuries, but in the 1910s the medieval version was brought back in the decorative arts. 

The ring comes with a copy of its original award certificate, signed by the head of the Cabinet Chamberlain of His Majesty's Court, and stamped with the ink seal of the Cabinet of Empress Maria Feodorovna.
