Fabergé Friday

These last few days have been hot in Sweden! Summer has finally arrived, and with the temperature rise, I thought it fitting to show you today's Fabergé object - a thermometer! It was created by workmaster Johan Victor Aarne sometime before 1896!

The thermometer is silver-gilt, with a frame covered in lilac enamel over a guilloché ground. It is also decorated with flower swags in different-colored gold, and the center plaque is made of ivory. The size of it is 7.8'' x 2.2'' x 0.5 '' (19.7 x 5.6 x 1.2 cm), and it was acquired by Tsar Nicholas II in 1898. It now has it's place in the Royal Collection

Fabergé Friday

Today's Fabergé object is - a frame! A pretty frame...

This frame was made by workmaster Johan Victor Aarne sometime between 1890-1908. The gold bordered arch is enameled in pale, translucent green over a radiating guilloché ground. Over the enamel sits decorative floral swags in four-colored gold, accented with cabochon rubies. The back of the frame is made of mother of pearl, and has a hinged, guilt scrolling strut. The hight of the frame is 1 5/8 inches (4.1 centimeters), and it is now for sale at John Atzbach Antiques for 135,000 USD.

Fabergé Friday

As you might notice, I have skipped the "vintage" in the title of this blog. In the beginning I planned to write more about my love for vintage fashion, but now I have realized this blog is about so many other things I love too. So to not mislead anyone, the name of this blog is now, simply, Miss Meadows' Pearls! But now to today's Fabergé object!

Not only jewelry and objets d'art came out of Fabergé's workshops. He also designed utilitary objects. Like for example the little bellpush I will show you today. It was made by workmaster Johan Victor Aarne, sometime around 1890!

The triangular bellpush is made of wood, enameled with highly translucent pale pink over a guilloché ground that looks like sunbursts. The edge is of gold, and so are the decorative laurel wreaths.

In the center sits the pushbutton, which is made of a circle of chased gold leaves, holding a moonstone.

The bellpush is 2.24'' (5.7 cm) across, and is standing on three gadrooned bun feet. Underneath it still has it's original bakelite under panel. Wouldn't this be perfect to use when you need the butler to bring champagne?!!!
