Horst P. Horst

Horst Paul Albert Bohrmann (August 19, 1906 - November 18, 1999), later known as Horst P. Horst, is one of the photographers who has really left a mark in the history of photography. The first pictures that carried his credit line appeared in the December issue of French Vogue in 1931. And from that year his career was to continue for sixty years.

Through the years Horst's photos became known for their elegance, style and rarified glamour, and his real breakthrough as a published fashion photographer was when he started working with British Vogue. He also took pictures of a long line of celebrities, including Bette Davis, Cole Porter, Elsa Schiaparelli, Loretta Young, Ian Fleming and many, many more. During the 1980's he was commissioned to take nine photos for the magazine Life. They appeared in the February issue of that year, and became the magazine's most popular that year, selling 1.5 million copies

In 1990 Madonna used one of Horst's iconic photos (the one above) as inspiration in her video for the single Vouge, where she pays homage to classic fashion photography. The ones of you who has seen the video probably remembers the clip of Madonna posing in a partially tied corset, very reminiscent of this picture.

Here follows a few more photos of the great Horst P. Horst!

Shoot With Pelle Piano

About a week ago I did a photo shoot with Pelle Piano. He is both an amazing photographer and an amazing retoucher! I contacted him after seeing his previous work - and especially falling for his Old Hollywood style photos. We ended up having a fun and very productive day at his studio, and this post will show you the result. Everything was shot against a blue screen, so it was really fun to see the pictures after Pelle had worked his magic on them!

In 1956 I was on the cover of Vogue. The way I stay young is by drinking lots of red wine - antioxidants you know...

I actually started my first blog in 1941! I was living in NYC at the time...

...and just like the bloggers of today, I liked to take pictures of myself. I didn't have an iPhone though...

In Central Park!

Another self portrait. Queensboro Bridge in the background.

One more from Central Park. I love walking around there!

One of the best things with NYC is there's always cabs around!

I also had a bit of a career as an actress before I moved to Sweden! Sometimes acting as a femme fatale...

...and sometimes as...well...

For a short time I was married to a Count...Which actually makes me a Countess. And yes, I still hold that title!

And lastly, one from the good old Hollywood years!

As you can see Pelle Piano knows what he is doing! He has even taken the background photos - which he glued me into - himself. I'm really glad to have had the opportunity to work with him - and hope to be able to do it again in the future!

Tim Walker

Tim Walker has been photographing for different magazines for a long time. For Vogue he has worked for over a decade. His style is characterized by extravagant staging and romantic motifs. I love his pictures, and as usual when I see something that catches my eye more than usual, I have to share it with my readers. So here comes some his recent work, starting with a self portrait of the master himself!
