Garlic and Vampires...

Last Friday me and some other people met up at a place called "Garlic and Shots" for dinner. They put garlic in every dish, and have a huge amount of different garlic shots, if you feel like you need one of those...Didn't get any pictures of the food, but they had bouquets of parsley on the tables. Chewing on parsley is supposed to take away the garlic stench, after indulging in food containing this delicacy.

I think that parsley thing actually worked, for after dinner we all headed to the Vampire Lounge, and no one of the other guests left when the garlic-group arrived!

But the main reason we went to this place on this certain day, was to see Elegy Ellem perform one of her burlesque numbers!

All Hallow's Eve

We all know Halloween is celebrated on October 31st. But the Swedish All Hallow's Eve is the week after. This is really just a church thing. We decorate the graves of our departed loved ones with candles. Last year I was on my way to a party on this day, and I passed a cemetery. It was so beautiful - hundreds of lit candles on the snowy ground, shining in the darkness - that I just had to take a little walk on the churchyard!

This was the best picture I could find of it. But it doesn't do it justice at all! When it's pitch black outside, and the only thing lighting up the ground is those grave candles, it's like walking through a sea of light! An amazing feeling! But I've always liked cemeteries for the calm feeling they give me...

Anyway...Because of this Swedish All Hallow's Eve, some people celebrate Halloween a week after it's "real" day. Since I had to work through all of Halloween, this was great for me - I got to do some spooky partying after all! The only problem was that I wasn't sure that I would be able to go to the Saturday Halloween party I was invited too, until two days before. So I didn't have time to create an elaborate Halloween costume. I remembered I had some fur fabric leftovers somewhere though. So with this I made some fluffy ears and cuffs for both my wrists and my ankles, and decided to go to the party as The Rockabilly Raccoon!!!

I have to say I felt pretty cute in those ears!

The theme of the party was "laboratory", so everything in the apartment was covered in plastic! My sister dressed up as a convict...

...But she was forgiven her crimes, for non other than Jesus Christ joined the party!

For the Halloween picture of the year - where all the guests came together in front of the camera - we naturally chose "The Last Supper"...Or something like that...

Monday's school outfit

Monday again! Will give an account for a group project in class later today. We've been doing PR-pitches. Once I misheard when someone said "PR-pitch" though, and thought she said "PR-bitch". So now I know what I'm gonna write on my future business cards - "Miss Meadows - PR-bitch"! I'm sure everyone will hire me after that!

Decided to wear a skirt you've already seen - the red one I made after a pattern from the 50s. The blouse is new though! Or, actually I got it for Christmas last year, but I haven't used it yet. It's from "Dracula Clothing". If you're a teen goth, this is probably clothing heaven, but they actually make some nice victorian inspired clothes for people who are just normal goths. You all know you have one of those dark figures living in you. Don't be afraid to let them out sometimes! If the set sizes they have doesn't fit your body, you can give them your own measurements and get whatever you decide to order made especially for you - with no extra cost!

I like the Victorian collar on this blouse. But wearing it folded down fits my vintage look better, so that's how I'm gonna wear it! At least for today...

If you have it folded up, there's also a lacy bow that can be fastened like a brooch at the neckline.

Tomorrow will be spent running around visiting four different PR-agencies, to see how they work. Then, on Wednesday, I will head to Rouen with Fanny on a secret mission. I've programmed a few blog posts though. Don't think I'm going to leave you all alone just because I go to France for a few days!

Little Vintage Love Fair

Yaaaaaaaawn! Excuse me, I went to bed at 03:30 am this morning, after partying both Friday and Saturday. But I'll tell you about that some other time. The most important thing that happened today was that Little Vintage Love Fair was held in Stockholm. Despite my lack of sleep, I was up bright and early to visit the event. The first person I met there was gorgeous Tifa DeLeone.

She was there to sell her own magazine "Min Boudoir" ("My Boudoir") that just came out with the first issue. She started it as a web magazine, but now it exists in paper form. Of course I bought one for myself - I've been waiting for it for quite some time now - and I've just had time to quickly look through it. But after just this quick look, I have to say I'm sorry for all you people that doesn't understand Swedish...

The magazine is full of vintage, pin up, burlesque, and all the things people like me want to read about. This is the kind of magazine I've been lacking for years, so I'm really glad miss DeLeone did something about it and created "Min Boudoir"!

If you have worked as hard as you have to to create your own magazine, you're allowed to graze the cover of it too! Especially if you look like that! Tifa wasn't the only hot babe at the fair though...

...The fabulous Fanny was there too - selling stuff for her shop "Kellerman Vintage". I have plans for the pretty vintage dress she's wearing in the picture. One night when she's sleeping, I'm gonna steal it! But that's a seacret, so don't tell anyone else. Especially not her!...I might give it back after I've used it a few times though. I like Fanny very much, so I don't want to be too mean to her. Today she gave me a banana! I haven't eaten a banana in years, so she showed me how to peel it - I obviously didn't do it right - and made sure I put it in the right bodily orifice...I saw a TV show a while ago, where a girl did something she called "The Banana Trick" with this yellow fruit. I'm not going to delve into exactly what she did deeper here, but after seeing that I was a bit confused about exactly what you're supposed to do with a banana. Luckily I had Fanny there to make sure I did it the right way. No "tricks" included...

There was a band too!!!

Except for the magazine I didn't buy anything. I'm saving my money for a secret vintage mission me and Fanny are going on in France, next week. Reports about that will of course end up here afterwards...

Fabergé Friday

When I studied art history at the University of Stockholm, I wrote my C-essay (for a BA) about Carl Fabergé's Imperial easter eggs. The more I read about this man and his company, the more treasures I found. From the middle of the 19th century, to the beginning of the 20th century his jewelry makers created things other people in the same business were incapable of. Eventually Fabergé became jeweler to the Tsar himself!

It was tradition to give each other decorated eggs for Easter in Russia, and in 1885 Tsar Alexander III wanted to give his wife, Maria Feodorovna, a special egg, since they celebrated their 20th engagement aniversary at Easter that year. Maria had a certain affection for Fabergé's jewelry, so Alexander decided to give him the job to create this egg. The tradition of the Imperial easter eggs by Fabergé had begun...

The Tsar gave Fabergé free hands when it came to the design of the eggs. The only rule was that each egg had to be unique, and contain a little surprise! With this in mind Carl used the Tsar family itself as inspiration for each egg - starting with the "Hen Egg" in 1885.

This is the "simplest" of all the Imperial eggs. On the outside it looks like a normal, white egg. But when you open it, you realize the whole inside has been gilded. The surprise inside this egg is a little hen à quatre couleurs (gold in four different shades) - inside which was a tiny copy of the imperial crown - inside which was a ruby pendant. The crown and the pendant has been lost though...

Next Friday - next egg!

Monday's school outfit

This Monday's dress comes from some store on Melrose in LA. Bought it on last summers little trip there.

It's from the 50s, and is home sewn. This is one of my "just throw on" dresses that I...well...just throw on, when I need to just throw something on - if you know what i'm sayin'...

It has been over-dyed with black though, but it looks blacker in this picture that it is in real life. If you look closely at the fabric you can see the Hawaiian islands here and there on it, with the islands names written in gold. So with this Hawaiian theme I can imagine the dress was very colorful before someone dyed it.

Since it's become quite chilly here in Sweden I put on a little purple cardigan over the dress. It's from H&M, and I bought it a long time ago.

Something that always spices up your outfit is hair flowers, so I added some matching purple ones to mine! Can't remember where I got these...In this photo you can see my sister tattoo. Both mine and my sister's names start with a "C", so we both got these on the side of our left hands. Inked together for life!

After my PR-class I ended up at The Vampire Lounge for some Halloween drinks. When I arrived I met Fanny and Michael, looking pretty as usual...
